Brigidine College St Ives, Australia

DIRECTOR in Educational Institutions

Brigidine College St Ives, Australia Is an Independent Catholic Secondary School for Girls located in Sydney’s Upper North Shore Region. The requirement was to upgrade 38 Classrooms, a Seminar Room and a Video Conferencing Room with state-of-the-art Audio Visual (AV) equipment to enrich student - teacher interaction and strengthen Brigidine College St Ives’ high level of academic achievement. The solution needed to be user friendly for both the teachers and students, plus be consistent across their entire educational facility.

Brigidine College with the help of PIVOD Technologies chose to integrate a suite of Toshiba Notebooks, dynadock™ U (docking stations) and LCD projectors using the Cisco Digital Media System to access the Media Library. All this is then controlled with a simple and intuitive software interface - DIRECTOR by PIVOD, which is accessed via the Intranet.

To ensure the teachers adopted this integrated solution quickly Brigidine embedded the PIVOD Technologies DIRECTOR AV control interface into their own intranet site. Teachers simply log onto their notebook as normal where a list of classrooms is displayed. Then from the list they select the room they are in, the Audio Visual equipment they want to use and finally the media they wish to display. No more complicated switching or remote controls, the buttons are there on their notebooks.

Karen Holt the Director of ICT (2009) at Brigidine College St Ives and the architect of the solution comment’s - “ Teachers have more important things to worry about than getting the projector to work and no time to spare in a lesson fiddling with controls. The PIVOD/Toshiba/Cisco solution makes using AV in the classrooms as easy as turning on the lights.”

The Teachers notebooks connect effortlessly into the audio visual system using a single USB cable into the docking stations. This solution has classes commencing faster as it has negated all the previous difficulties with connection issues. To access their media library Brigidine has also implemented the Cisco’s Digital Media System (DMS) which both the DIRECTOR software and the hardware integrate with fluently.
